District Governor Dr. J.P.Kamalanathan
Dr. Kamalanathan was Charter President of the Lions Club of Kuala Krai, Kelantan, as well as its mentor for more than 26 years. At the Cabinet level he has made his mark and steered Lionism to greater heights through the various cabinet portfolios he was entrusted with from 1982 – 2008 including Zone Chairman, Deputy District Governor and again as Region Chairman and finally as Vice District Governor. Among his star projects that brought international commendation is the Sight First (SF586) Cataract Intervention Campaign (1998-2002) which involved free cataract operations with intra-ocular lens implants for 1,246 underprivileged patients in Kelantan and neighboring states. Other significant projects include the Nationwide Launch for Breast Cancer Awareness and the Lions Motorcade for Sight. Dr.Kamalanathan is a Melvin Jones Fellow (1991), Multiple District 308 Fellow (1984) and District Fellow (1993).
For his exemplary service, he has received numerous awards from the Club, District and Lions International including the International President’s Leadership Award.
Dr. Kamalanathan is a people-centered person and is very popular with the community, being sensitive to their needs and generously giving of his time and talent for their betterment. He also provides leadership for professional and community bodies and is currently the
- Chairman of Academy of Family Physicians of Malaysia (Kelantan),
- Chairman of Malaysian Consultative Council for Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism and Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST) - Kelantan,
- Founder Chairman of Malaysia Hindu Sangam (Kelantan) and
- Deputy Chairman of PIBG of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sultan Yahya Petra, Kuala Krai.
He has also taken the Kuala Krai Hakka Old Folks Home under his wing and has been providing voluntary service as the visiting doctor for the elderly for more than 30 years.
Dr. Kamalanathan is married to Dr. Mary Abraham, Senior Lecturer and Quality Coordinator for Health Campus, Universiti Sains Malaysia. She was previously Director of Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II (HRPZII), Kota Bharu. They are blessed with a son, Dr.Gandhi and daughter-in-law Dr.Meenal who are both pursuing specialist training in Ireland. They also have two daughters -Dr.Lavanya, a medical officer in HRPZII and Rowena who is a Medical Student in IMU.
The District Governor’s unique leadership style should ensure Lionism in District 308B1 reaches even greater heights in service.
